Nerdy Fanboys

Go on, I know you are wondering. Why the gratuitous reference in the chart commentary to "nerdy fanboys" of Natalie Imbruglia? I was tempted to expand on the full story there and then but it struck me as rather too indulgent.

It all stems from a very old version of my personal website, which featured on the front page a self-deprecating comment about DJs having a large collection of pictures of them being matey with celebrities, none of whom they had met before or indeed since. I illustrated this with an example of my own:

That's a rather younger looking me in the studios of Key 103 in Manchester where we'd travelled to record an interview with the aforementioned Australia popstrel. I captioned the photo with a comment about how every Australian pop star I've ever met had been without makeup and looked a little rough (a reference to a 7am encounter with Kylie once).
Sometime in 2002 this prompted the following hilarious email:

James.

Took a look a your website today to find myself becoming
distrested at the comments you made about Natalie Imbruglia. You obviously
need to have your head checked out if you think she could ever look anything
less than beautiful. I think the comment ROUGH should be retracted as fans
of Nat are upset by your comments. The fan sites of Kylie and Natalie will
not persue this matter with your Internet Service Provider if you:

1. Present a better picture of Natalie.

2. Dedicate a page to her and her Beauty on your site.

3. Post a formal appology to the fans at a Natalie Imbruglia webite

Please.

Matt

In deference to the poor chap, I won't publish his email address just in case it is still valid, certainly the web addresses he references are. Needless to say my only response to the mail was to circulate it to entertained friends. I didn't change the site, or apologise and for some reason nobody ever "persued" the matter with my ISP.

Damn rude of me really, after all he did say please.
